Psychodynamic psychotherapy is best described as a group of treatments that focus on human subjectivity and its interplay between with both the internal and external environments. It incorporates a developmental perspective, unconscious conflict, internal representations of relationships, defense mechanisms, the complex meanings that are attached to experience, and the search for authenticity and trust about the self.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is also often misunderstood as a therapy where the therapist offers blank stares and silence, and that the therapy is interminable or ineffectual. Although psychodynamic psychotherapy is derived from psychoanalysis, psychodynamic therapists are actively engaged with the patient and seek to resonate emotionally with the expressed affect.

Art therapy is a treatment process that applies psychological theory to the practice of creating art within a therapeutic environment. Art therapy has been increasingly supported through science as a way of boosting cognitive function, emotional regulation, and self-confidence.
Art therapy supports the notion all people are inherently able to engage in creative processes; creative expression can be a powerful therapeutic tool.
